Medellin Motorcycle Day Trip - Jerico

I have a business renting adventure motorcycles in Medellin Colombia. I ride around a lot out here so I thought that I would share with you all some of the cool places that are in the local area. I put a bunch of information about my company at the bottom of this post below the pictures if you're interested. So without further adieu, let us begin:

Jercio is an awesome little town about 3 hours outside of Medellin and makes a great motorcycle day trip from Medellin.  The road to get there is absolutely beautiful and there are tons of activities in town. Lots of people talk about visiting Jardin but in my opinion its and the drive isn't as cool.

Route:

  • Say Hi To Pablo -  Start off at your hotel in Medellin and start heading south towards Envigado and Itagui. On your way out of town you can stop by Cemetario Jardins Montesacro and visit Pablo Escobar’s grave site which has become a huge tourist attraction in Medellín due to the popular Narcos series and the notoriety of Pablo Escobar.

  • Restaurant With A View - After an hour or so of driving through the beautiful mountains and scenery there is an awesome restaurant called Santo Tomas Parrilla Bar. You can have coffee and arepas on the deck that looks out over the valley with a view of Cerro Tusa, the biggest natural pyramid in the world, in the background.

  • Twists, Turns And Spectacular Views - After a short break you head further south before turning off the main road and start winding up into the mountains on our way to Jerico. This road is awesome and has tons of twists and turns as well as spectacular views of the green valley below. There are a couple local restaurants there that have beautiful overlooks of the valley. I recommend stopping at one of them before continuing the rest of the way to Jerico.

  • Time To Chill - Once in Jerico you have the opportunity to hang out and have lunch in the main square. You can also go paragliding or visit some of the churches in the town. Another cool place to stop is the top of Morro El Salvador for an absolutely incredible view of the town surrounded by mountains.

  • Heading Back -  After a full day of hanging out in Jerico you can head back to Medellin or spend the night at some of family owned hotels and cabins they have there.

  • Things To Do: Jericó is undoubtedly one of the best places in Colombia to go paragliding. the views around Jericó are incomparable. Here, you can soar past huge, lush mountains, through the valley and across the Piedras River. There is nothing quite like flying through the thick clouds, next to the eagles who make this beautiful region their home.

  • Wanna Climb a Mountain? - I don't want to climb a mountain but if you're a super adventurous person and want a challenge I recommend Cerro Tusa, the biggest natural pyramid in the world. From a distance, Cerro Tuza’s shape seems too surreal to exist. However, this hike is not for the faint of heart. It takes almost three hours to reach its peak and is an almost entirely vertical "walk." Its pretty tough and takes up the whole damn day but its cool to say that you did it.
