SOAT INSURANCE IN COLOMBIA

What is SOAT?

The Colombian SOAT (Seguro Obligatorio de Accidentes de Tránsito) is a mandatory insurance policy for all vehicles in Colombia. It covers expenses arising from traffic accidents that result in injuries or death to third parties, passengers, pedestrians, or drivers. The primary purpose of SOAT is to ensure that victims of traffic accidents receive prompt medical attention and financial compensation.

 

In addition to the previously mentioned coverage, SOAT also provides:

  • Immediate medical care and emergency services: Coverage includes urgent medical attention required following a traffic accident.

  • Rehabilitation services: SOAT covers rehabilitation costs for victims to help them recover from their injuries.

  • Compensation for lost wages or income: If a person is unable to work due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident, SOAT may cover a portion of their lost income.

  • Medical, surgical, pharmaceutical, and hospital expenses

  • Permanent disability

  • Death and funeral expenses

  • Transportation and mobilization costs for the injured

  • Immediate emergency medical care

  • Supply of medications

  • Treatments and surgical procedures

  • Diagnostic services

  • Rehabilitation
