Optional Damage Insurance

Damage Insurance & $500 Deductible

All motorcycle rentals include damage insurance with a $500 USD deductible.

This means that the rider is responsible for the actual cost of covered motorcycle damage, up to a maximum of $500 USD per motorcycle per rental period.

Colombia Moto Adventures is responsible for covered damage costs above $500 USD, including major accident damage, theft, total loss, and towing or recovery associated with a covered incident.

How the $500 Deductible Works

If the motorcycle is damaged during your rental, you only pay for the actual covered damage up to $500.

For example:

  • If you break a clutch lever and the repair costs $25, you pay $25.

  • If you break a mirror and an indicator for a total of $100, you pay $100.

  • If several damaged parts total $350, you pay $350.

  • If an accident causes $1,500 in covered damage, you pay the $500 deductible, and Colombia Moto Adventures is responsible for the remaining $1,000.

  • If the motorcycle is stolen or declared a total loss, your maximum responsibility for the covered loss is the $500 deductible, subject to the terms and exclusions of the rental agreement.

In other words, $500 is not an automatic damage charge. You only pay for the actual covered damage that occurs, up to the $500 maximum.

Typical Damage Charges

Common replacement or repair charges include but are not limited to:

  • Broken Brake or Clutch Lever — $25

  • Broken Mirror — $50

  • Broken Front Indicator — $50

  • Scratched Plastics — $50

  • Lost Key — $100

  • Broken Rear Indicator — $100

  • Bent Handlebar — $100

  • Lost / Damaged Dry Bag — $125

  • Broken Plastic — $200

  • Lost / Broken Helmet — $300

  • Bent Crash Bars — $300

  • Broken Tail Light — $500

  • Bent / Broken Rim — $800

  • Chassis Damage — $1000

Damage charges may be cumulative, but the rider's responsibility for covered motorcycle damage will not exceed the $500 deductible per motorcycle per rental period.

Example 1 — Minor Damage

If a rider drops the motorcycle and damages:

  • Mirror — $50

  • Clutch lever — $25

  • Indicator — $50

  • Scratched plastic — $50

Total damage: $175

The rider would pay $175, not $500.

Example 2 — Major Damage

If a more serious accident causes:

  • Broken plastics — $400

  • Bent crash bars — $300

  • Other repairs — $600

Total damage: $1,300

The rider would pay the $500 deductible, and Colombia Moto Adventures would be responsible for the remaining $800of covered motorcycle damage.

Example 3 — Damage Plus Towing

If an accident causes:

  • Motorcycle damage — $350

  • Towing / recovery — $250

Total covered cost: $600

The rider would pay the $500 deductible, and Colombia Moto Adventures would cover the remaining $100.

Towing and recovery associated with a covered incident are included in the damage insurance and count toward the same $500 deductible.

Example 4 — Theft or Total Loss

If a motorcycle is stolen despite the rider taking reasonable security precautions and complying with the rental agreement, the rider's responsibility for the covered loss is limited to the $500 deductible.

The same applies if the motorcycle is damaged beyond economical repair and declared a total loss.

Important Exclusions

The $500 USD deductible applies only to covered motorcycle damage or loss.

The rider may be responsible for the full cost of damage or loss when it results from:

  • Intentional damage, abuse, or gross negligence

  • Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs

  • Racing, stunts, or other reckless use

  • Use of the motorcycle by an unauthorized rider

  • Riding in prohibited areas or ignoring reasonable safety instructions

  • Abandoning the motorcycle

  • Theft when reasonable security precautions were not taken

  • Leaving the motorcycle unlocked when it could reasonably have been secured

  • Leaving the keys in or with the motorcycle

  • Failure to promptly report theft, a serious accident, or major damage

  • Unauthorized modifications or repairs

  • Deliberate misuse of the motorcycle

Theft Requirements

In the event of theft, the rider must:

  • Notify Colombia Moto Adventures as soon as reasonably possible

  • Make a police report when required or reasonably possible

  • Cooperate with any reasonable documentation or insurance requirements

  • Return all motorcycle keys in the rider's possession

  • Demonstrate that reasonable precautions were taken to secure the motorcycle

Failure to take reasonable precautions may result in the theft being excluded from the $500 deductible protection.

Riding Gear, Accessories & Other Equipment

Unless specifically stated otherwise, the $500 motorcycle damage deductible does not necessarily cover loss or damage to riding gear, accessories, documents, tools, luggage, phone mounts, dry bags, or other equipment supplied with the rental.

Lost or damaged equipment may be charged separately at the actual replacement or repair cost.

Typical charges include:

  • Lost or broken helmet — $300

  • Lost key — $100

  • Lost or damaged supplied equipment — repair or replacement cost

Tires & Normal Wear

Riders are not responsible for normal wear and tear.

This includes reasonable wear to:

  • Tires

  • Brake pads

  • Chains and sprockets

  • Clutch components

  • Normal cosmetic wear

  • Other routine maintenance items

However, damage caused by misuse, reckless riding, or avoidable abuse may be charged to the rider.

Normal tire punctures that occur during regular riding are treated separately from accident damage.

Mechanical Failures

Riders are not responsible for mechanical failures caused by:

  • Normal wear

  • Maintenance issues

  • Pre-existing mechanical problems

  • Manufacturing defects

  • Ordinary component failure

If a mechanical problem occurs during your rental, contact Colombia Moto Adventures as soon as possible so we can assist.

Pre-Existing Damage

All motorcycles may be inspected and photographed before the rental begins.

Riders will not be charged for scratches, damage, or defects that existed before the motorcycle was rented.

We encourage riders to inspect the motorcycle at pickup and notify us of anything they notice before departing.

Reporting Damage

Accidents, motorcycle drops, theft, or significant damage should be reported to Colombia Moto Adventures as soon as reasonably possible.

Prompt reporting allows us to provide assistance, arrange repairs or recovery, and properly document the incident.

Repairs

Riders should not authorize major repairs, modifications, or replacement parts without approval from Colombia Moto Adventures.

In an emergency, contact us through our 24/7 WhatsApp support before authorizing repairs whenever reasonably possible.

Towing & Recovery

Towing and recovery are included in the damage insurance when they result from a covered incident.

Any towing or recovery cost is combined with the other covered damage and is subject to the same $500 USD deductible.

For example, if motorcycle damage is $300 and towing costs $150, the rider's total responsibility would be $450.

If motorcycle damage and towing together exceed $500, the rider pays a maximum of $500 for the covered incident.

Mechanical recovery resulting from a normal mechanical failure or maintenance issue is not the rider's responsibility.

Damage Assessment

Whenever possible, common damage will be assessed using the standard charges listed above.

More significant damage may require:

  • Mechanical inspection

  • Parts pricing

  • Repair estimates

  • Labor estimates

  • Transportation or recovery assessment

Any additional damage charges will be communicated within 7 business days after the motorcycle is returned or recovered, whenever reasonably possible.

For significant damage, Colombia Moto Adventures may provide supporting documentation such as photographs, parts pricing, invoices, or repair estimates.

S

ecurity Deposit

A security deposit may be required at the beginning of the rental.

If damage is discovered, an appropriate amount may be temporarily withheld while the motorcycle is inspected and the final repair cost is determined.

Any remaining deposit balance will be released once the damage assessment is completed, subject to the rental agreement and payment-processing timelines.

Our Goal

Our goal is to keep the damage process simple, fair, and transparent.

For normal covered accidents, motorcycle damage, and associated towing or recovery:

You are responsible for the actual covered cost up to $500 USD.

Colombia Moto Adventures is responsible for covered costs above $500 USD, including major damage, theft, total loss, and towing or recovery.

This protection allows riders to enjoy their trip without worrying about being personally responsible for the full value of the motorcycle after a covered accident.
