🏍️ Why Our Bikes Are the Smart Choice for Colombia
We’ve tested and ridden everything from big BMW GS models to KTM Adventures — and while they’re great bikes in the right setting, Colombia’s terrain demands something different. That’s why our fleet is built around the Suzuki DR650 and Honda XRE300 — two proven, reliable dual-sports that are lighter, simpler, and better suited to real-world Colombian riding.
🌬️ Air-Cooled, Low-Tech, Built to Last
Adventure in Colombia can mean searing jungle heat one day and freezing páramo winds the next. That’s where air-cooled simplicity shines.
-
No radiators, hoses, or thermostats → Nothing to crack or leak if you drop the bike on rocks or dirt roads.
-
No fragile electronics → Many BMW GS and KTM Adventure models rely on traction control, ride modes, and sensors that can short out in rain or high humidity. Our bikes have none of that — just a reliable carbureted or fuel-injected single-cylinder engine.
-
Heat-proof → Air-cooled engines won’t overheat on long climbs in tropical conditions or at high altitude.
🪶 Lighter Weight = Safer Handling
Thinking of renting a KTM or BMW GS in Medellín? Big adventure bikes are powerful but heavy, making them harder to control on steep mountain roads, loose gravel, and muddy trails. A lighter, simpler bike is easier to maneuver, less tiring to ride, and far less likely to injure you if it tips over — giving you a safer, more enjoyable trip from start to finish.
Heavy ADV bikes like:
-
BMW F 750 GS – ~493 lbs (224 kg)
-
BMW R 1250 GS – ~549–591 lbs (249–268 kg)
-
KTM 790 & 890 Adventure – ~460–478 lbs (209–217 kg)
Our bikes:
-
Suzuki DR650 – ~366 lbs (166 kg)
-
Honda XRE300 – ~328 lbs (149 kg)
That’s 100–250 lbs less weight — a massive difference when you’re picking up a bike in mud, weaving through tight mountain switchbacks, or crossing rivers. In some cases, the R 1250 GS is nearly twice the weight of the XRE300.
🛞 Terrain-Ready for All of Colombia
From cobblestone colonial towns to muddy jungle ruts, our bikes are built for versatility:
-
21” front wheels for rolling over rocks and potholes
-
Long suspension travel for comfort on rough roads
-
Lightweight frames for agility in tight spots
The KTM 390 Adventure looks great on paper, but it’s not ideal for Colombia’s rugged conditions. Its cast wheels, complex electronics, and liquid cooling make it more fragile on rocky roads, river crossings, and muddy trails. Limited suspension travel, low ground clearance, and underpowered performance for two-up riding with luggage make it less capable in steep Andes terrain.
😎 Proven by Locals
There’s a reason Colombian police and our tour guides ride DR650s and XRE300s — they work here. They’ve been tested daily in Colombia’s harshest environments and passed with flying colors.
✅ Bottom line: Whether you’re riding solo through the Andes, exploring jungle backroads, or crossing half the country, our bikes are light enough to handle, simple enough to fix anywhere, and tough enough to finish the journey — all while keeping your rental costs down.
